Robert J. Rosenthal

Chief Executive Officer

 

 A seasoned life sciences executive, Dr. Rosenthal is chief executive officer and member of the board of directors of IMI Intelligent Medical Implants, a pioneer developer of a system to restore vision to people blinded by diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa or macular degeneration. Dr. Rosenthal has 20 years of experience fostering product innovation and building value for customers, shareholders, and employees in companies serving the biomedical research and diagnostics industries. Most recently, Dr. Rosenthal was president and Previously, Dr. Rosenthal was president and CEO of Boston Life Sciences, an R&D development-phase biopharmaceutical company. Before that, he was president of PerkinElmer's Instruments division, where he managed the acquisition and integration of the Analytical Instruments group from PE Corporation. As president and CEO of Thermo Optek, (now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific) Dr. Rosenthal built a market-leading instrument company, which went public in 1996. Dr. Rosenthal began his management career at Wisconsin-based Nicolet Instrument Corporation, ultimately becoming its president after Thermo Instrument Systems acquired the company.
Dr. Rosenthal serves on several boards, including Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. (NYSE:SFE), where he chairs the acquisition committee and is a member of the audit committee. A holding company, Safeguard provides growth capital for entrepreneurial and innovative life sciences and technology enterprises. Dr. Rosenthal also serves on the board of Primera Dx, a molecular-diagnostics company based in Mansfield, Massachusetts, and he is a member of the University of Maryland Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Board of Advisors. Dr. Rosenthal holds a bachelor’s of science degree in chemistry from the University of Maryland, a master’s in chemistry from State University of New York (Buffalo), and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Emory University. He spent a year in Germany completing a post-doctoral fellowship and as a guest scientist of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This was followed by an additional post-doctoral fellowship at UCLA. In addition, Dr. Rosenthal holds an AEA Executive MBA from Stanford University.

Hans-Jürgen Tiedtke

Vice president of Technology

 

Hans-Jürgen Tiedtke studied electrical engineering at the RWTH Aachen. In 1992 he joined the Augsburg based company HP-medica GmbH with the goal of establishing a new R&D department in Aachen for medical engineering systems and products. While at this company Hans-Jürgen Tiedtke was responsible for the development of a hydrodynamic thrombectomy catheter, this device was launched in Europe in 1997 and in the US in 1999. In 1998 he became Managing Director of HP-medica.

Between 1998 and 2003 he was responsible for the development and marketing of numerous products such as innovative production equipment for suture material, a dynamic bubble trap for extracorporeal circulation, and an ultrasonic bubble detector providing a so far unknown resolution. The latter product was developed and marketed under his supervision until 2003. Hans-Jürgen Tiedtke joined with IMI Intelligent Medical Implants as Vice president of Technology.

Robert Hill

Vice president of Operations

 

Robert Hill is a versatile and seasoned professional with over 35 years operational experience in manufacturing industries including; 14 years with the Datascope Corporation, a Nasdaq quoted company; Over ten years with Pira International, the UK’s Technical centre for the Packaging, Paper and Packaging Industries and over ten years with a number of pharmaceutical and chemical companies.
At Datascope, he was latterly R&D Director, and prior to that was RA/QA Director and at various times also managed Clinical Affairs, OEM and key company projects. While with Intervascular Inc., Robert Hill led the company’s French facility to ISO/EN9001/13485 certification, CE Marking, FDA listing and subsequently two successful FDA inspections. Additionally at Intervascular Inc., he led the product development and CE approval of the world’s first approved anti-microbial graft, InterGard Silver, and also led a number of major manufacturing improvement and product development projects.
At Pira International (now part of Ciba Expert Services) Robert Hill was Principal Consultant within the Operations Management Consultancy Group where he undertook TQM, general management, packaging design and cost reduction consultancies. Client companies included large multi-nationals through to start-ups.
